Georges & Samuel Mohsen – Suzuki Violin Teachers in Cairo, Egypt

Georges and Samuel Mohsen are Cairo-based Egyptian violinists and dedicated Suzuki teachers. Their musical journey began at the age of five as two of the first students of Dr. Osman El Mahdy at the Cairo Opera House, where they were introduced to the Suzuki Method and later had the privilege of teaching beside him at the Cairo Opera House

In 2007, Georges and Samuel founded the Suzuki Violin Class at the Cairo Suzuki Music Center, expanding Egypt’s first independent Suzuki music school. Originally established in 1997 by Egyptian pianist Dr. Mona Fekry, the Center became the foundation for spreading the Suzuki Method in Egypt. Since then, Georges and Samuel have been leading Suzuki violin education in Cairo, teaching children as young as 3½ years old.

Their teaching is rooted in the vision of Japanese violinist and educator Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, who believed that “Every child can.” This philosophy recognizes that talent is not an inborn gift for a select few, but a potential in all children that can be nurtured through the right environment. Lessons are designed to respect each child’s individual pace, encouraging progress without pressure while cultivating perseverance, self-discipline, and joy in music.

Their Adaptation of the Suzuki Approach

To meet the needs of today’s young musicians, Georges and Samuel have adapted the Suzuki philosophy in several ways:

  • Early integration of music reading: While Suzuki originally delayed note-reading, they introduce it earlier through theory and “reading readiness” classes, complementing ear training through listening and singing.
  • A broader repertoire: Alongside the traditional Suzuki repertoire, students explore Romantic and modern works, as well as popular music—from Disney to contemporary pop and Egyptian songs. This fosters both technical growth and cultural connection.
  • Technical foundation: From the start, students are introduced to scales and technical exercises, ensuring a solid basis for technique and musicality.
  • Teacher flexibility: Supplementary materials are blended into the standard Suzuki literature, allowing instruction to be tailored to each student’s individual needs.

Each year, their students perform in the Annual Concert at the Cairo Opera House, celebrating progress, passion, and community.
