Egypt’s First Independent Suzuki Music School Outside Cairo Opera House
Founded in 1997 by Dr. Mona Fekry, the Cairo Suzuki Music Center (CSMC) is Egypt’s first independent Suzuki music school established outside the Cairo Opera House. Beginning with a piano program, the Center has become one of Egypt’s longest-running institutions dedicated to Suzuki music education, helping generations of children discover the joy of music through a nurturing and child-centered approach.
A pioneer of the Suzuki Method in Egypt, Dr. Mona Fekry combined her classical training with a deep belief that every child has the ability to learn music when provided with the right environment. Her vision was to create a school where music is not simply taught, but experienced as a lifelong journey of personal growth, confidence, discipline, and creativity.

Expansion to Violin Education in
Egypt with Georges & Samuel Mohsen
In 2007, the Center expanded its educational program with the establishment of its violin department under the direction of Georges and Samuel Mohsen.
Former students of Dr. Osman El Mahdy, who introduced Suzuki violin education at the Cairo Opera House in 1993, Georges and Samuel later assisted him before founding their own Suzuki violin class at the Cairo Suzuki Music Center.
Their arrival marked an important milestone in the development of Suzuki violin education in Egypt, extending the same philosophy of learning through listening, encouragement, repetition, and community to young violinists.
Since then, hundreds of children have studied violin through the Center, regularly performing in annual concerts at the Cairo Opera House and developing both technical excellence and a lifelong appreciation for music.

Bringing Suzuki Literature to the Arabic World
The family’s commitment to Suzuki education extends beyond teaching.
In 2001, Dr. Mohsen Edward, husband of Dr. Mona Fekry, translated Dr. Shinichi Suzuki’s internationally acclaimed book Nurtured by Love into Arabic, making one of the most influential books on music education accessible to Arabic-speaking parents, teachers, and musicians throughout the region.
For many years, the Arabic edition became an essential reference for Suzuki teachers across Egypt. It was studied by educators who later established their own music studios and Suzuki programs, contributing to the growth and spread of the Suzuki Method throughout the country.
This landmark translation played a significant role in introducing Dr. Shinichi Suzuki’s philosophy to a new generation of Egyptian music educators and helped lay the foundation for the continued development of Suzuki education in Egypt.
